
Board of Directors

UMEM President Daniel has served on the UMEM board since 2016. Prior to joining the board, he led the Brunswick UMC efforts to support the UMEM through material, financial and volunteer support. He is also chair of the BUMC Missions Committee, Nicaragua Covenant director, and leader of the BUMC Methodist Men’s Club. After retirement from the USN in 2014, Daniel works part time as a professor of strategy and history.

UMEM Board Secretary Neil retired after 23 years of local church ministry. He serves the Mid Maine District as Visiting Sacramental Pastor, a member of DCOM, DCLB, Conference Trustees, and UMEM Board of Directors. He is a father to two sons, grandfather to two boys and a girl. Neil enjoys reading, walking, and crossword puzzling.

Board Member He is a retired Elder of the New England Conference, UMC, who loves to drive. He spends a great deal of time in his retirement driving his white truck around the Northeast picking up material goods in one place and delivering them in another. John delivers clothing, cereal and other donations to both the Salem and Howland sites of UM Economic Ministry. In 2018, he began his third 3-year term on the UMEM Board of Directors.

Board Member Kelly Harvell is the pastor of the New Harbor and Round Pond churches. She was a computer analyst/programmer for more than 20 years before becoming a Licensed Local Pastor in 2004. She began ministry in Rumford, ME and served in Bethlehem/Whitefield, NH before beginning her current appointment. She is often accompanied by her Assistance Dog in Ministry, Benny. In 2017 she joined the Executive Board of the UMEM and has recently taken on the Finance Chair position.

Board Member With extensive experience facilitating leadership, team building, visioning, and organizational development processes, Bonnie offers training, consultation and retreats about conflict, change and transitions, as well as board training, and fundraising/development services. She is active in the New England Annual Conference and provides Development and Stewardship education and project management for a national financial literacy initiative. Bonnie supports redistributive justice.

Board Member Judith Johnson is a retired educator who served several universities in Assessment, Accreditation, and Educational Research over the course of her 27 year career. Brought up as a Methodist, Judith has served as a Trustee, and on the Finance and Staff Parish Relations Committees at the Auburn UMC. She enjoys writing, walking, gardening, and spending time with her three children, their spouses and her six grandchildren.

MidMaine District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Karen L. Munson superintends the 66 United Methodist churches of the MidMaine District and believes that God is truly making all things new. Karen served churches in Readfield and Brunswick. She earned her MDIV and DMIN at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC. As an artist in residence with Art for the Heart of the City Karen encountered the power of creative projects to stir insight and hope in communities.

UM Volunteers in Mission Representative Jeff serves as the New England Conference UM Volunteers in Mission Co-Coordinator and is the UMVIM representative to the UMEM Board. Following a 24 year career in the Navy, he moved to Maine and has been teaching Physics and Engineering at Kents Hill School since 2001. He has a passion for mission and has led several mission trips with groups of faculty and students. He is married to Rev. Dr. Karen Munson.

Board Member Marcia attends church at the Fisk UMC in Natick, MA. She and her church have supported UMEM with clothes, household goods and financial gifts. She has been the connection! Marcia have been involved in her local Food Pantry, a board member of Cooper Community Center (a mission site of the UMC) in Boston, and through many positions in United Methodist Women. She feels privileged to serve as a current UMEM board member.
